Water, water everywhere!
The first time we visited Jamisa Lower Basic School in Brikama, Gambia in 2008, we were a little nonplussed by the headmaster’s comment that simply visiting them would help. Having just returned, one year later, we understand.
The school’s last head had “diverted” funds and created an air of despondency among both staff and children. Seeing that someone cared had rekindled their enthusiasm and a kind of loaves and fishes miracle occurred.
Today, Jamisa is a thriving school of 2300 with new roofs, running water and a new sense of “can do” (even the children are that little bit cheekier). With the Mayor of Brikama on our board and a great team of NGOs in Gambia, Dance2Learn are delighted to watch them go from strength to strength.
