Monies raised in the Gambia from the Solar Lights is currently ear-marked for eye surgery. Here is the latest update. Meanwhile, we wish the Gambian people a peaceful transition to the new government Of Mr Adama Barrow.
The children around the Gunjur Project in Gambia are about to send their tokens of their gratitude to the people who have been responding en masse to the memorial fund to Presley the Dog who passed away on the 4 January 2017 in the form of letters and pictures. This fund will help to spread safe, free light to hundreds of people less fortunate than ourselves and has already passed its target and is on the way up! To take part, simply click the link below the flyer below which Jo Austin-Preece of the Project is sending out to the community around Gunjur this week. "Just a Dog?" maybe, but what a dog! :-) Go Presley! Presley the Dog, the wonderful Welsh terrier who passed away on January the 4th 2017 having brought light to so many in his almost 16 years is the inspiration for this campaign and the reason for raising the target!
www.Dance2Learn.org and Presley the Dog would like to help some REAL VIPs to turn on the Christmas lights! Seeing the Wakawaka lights charging on the roofs of the compounds and then meeting the people whose lives have been radically changed by having free, safe light after sundown; women who can take care of their babies, businesses that can continue to operate and most poignantly, the kids who can study safely, without breathing in the fumes of kerosene or having to wait until they can afford a candle... priceless! £15 buys a light that will serve around 9 people for at least 10 Years!! £500 provides safe, free light for around 300 people for 10 years! £1500, nearly 1000 people! etc... With even more we can build a classroom!! then visit us on Facebook. .. Dance2Learn and www.Facebook. com/presleybarks Seems Dance2Learn aren't only hitting the Gambian press but also that nearer to home! Those of you who have been following or supporting us over the years may notice a couple of inconsistencies (not in the printed version) but all in all a nice little article before Christmas! :-) click below for more... A few snaps of our recent revisit to Jamisa Lower Basic School in Brikama can be seen on the site as well as at our Facebook Page ( Dance2Learn.org).
It was lovely to see the school flourishing! A surprise came through the letter box today, all the way from France... a card with a generous cheque inside for the next round of Wakawaka Solar Lights.
Dominique's gift will buy around 8 lights... One WakaWaka lights a home of 6-8 people... basically, safe, free light for around 50 people for at least 10 years!!! Wow, thank you sooo much on their behalf. Incroyablement gentille!! What a great Christmas present! Love "The Dance2Learn Team" The thank you letter written to our local post office (here in Bassaleg) was handed over today. It reads "We of the above named school say a big thank you to the Post Office Lady for her generous gift of pencils - Sheriff Baye H/M (headmaster) Thank you many many times. God bless you." Difficult for us to grasp but the school, Jamisa Lower Basic in Brikama Gambia has over 3.5 thousand children yet the headmaster needed to search hard to find a piece of unused paper!
